Prevalence and Outcome of Alteplase in Posterior Cerebrovascular Stroke Versus Anterior Cerebrovascular Stroke

Nourhan Abdelmohsen Taha Attiah;

Abstract

The central nervous system is supplied by the internal carotid arteries (ICA) and vertebral arteries (VA), through the anterior and posterior circulation, which intercommunicated through the circle of Willis. Ischemic stroke can occur in either circulation and IVT by Alteplase is the first line of treatment identified at time beings, but studies concerned with assessment of difference of outcome in PCS compared to ACS are limited and there is only assumptions that the PCS has worse morbidity and mortality compared to ACS.
To assess the prevalence and efficacy of IVT in posterior circulation stroke in comparison to anterior circulation.
Data were collected retrospective and prospective for patients who received Alteplase over the duration from June 2016 to May 2019 from the SITS, divided into Anterior circulation cases (Group 1) and Posterior circulation cases (Group 2), then the data was analyzed by Student T Test to assess the difference between two study group means, Mann Whitney Test (U test) to assess the difference of a non-parametric variable between two study groups, Repeated measure ANOVA test to assess the difference between repeated measurements of the same variable, Kruskal-Wallis test to assess the difference between more than two study group ordinal variables, Post Hoc Test for comparisons of all possible pairs of group means, Chi-Square test to examine the
