Abstract


Architectural identity created by architectural designers in every society represents the crystallization of social and cultural aspects over time. The Heliopolis district has a unique architectural identity. The district’s plan had a pattern of garden city’s ideals. the Heliopolis district has been losing some of its unique buildings leading to architectural and urban changes which might result in either losing or restoring the architectural identity.
The thesis aims to illustrate the effect of globalization, the internet revolution, and the latest modern trends on the architectural identity of the residential neighborhood of Heliopolis. The purpose is to find a balance between responding to globalization and the latest technologies and yet conserve the unique architectural and urban identity and architectural heritage. We cannot recreate the past and live in it, but we also must respect our architectural identity. Achieving a distinguished sense of place and appreciation of architectural identity are essential.
