Bio-agents stress as regulators of virulence and apoptosis quorum sensing in pathogenic Candida species.
Rahma Mostafa Mohammed Ibrahim El-Gazzar;
Abstract
The increasing incidence of Candida infections in recent years is associated with extensive and prolonged use of broad spectrum antimicrobial agents. The pathogenic Candida have developed effective specific virulence strategies to assist their colonisation, cause disease and overcome host defense. Many efforts have been done to discover new efficient and safe remedies for their pathogen. Green medicine or medicinal plants continue to be an important therapeutic aid for alleviating the ailments of human kind. Therefore, the present study was designed to evaluate the efficacy of eight medicinal plant extracts against twenty five Candida isolates which were isolated from urine samples of different patients, identification and assessment of virulence factors of the most sensitive isolates, mode of action of the most potentplant extracts such as morphological changes in treated cells using SEM and TEM, protein profile and induction of apoptosis. To achieve these objectives, twenty five isolates were isolated from different urine samples and treated firstly with aqueous extracts from eight medicinal plants to select the most sensitive isolates, which secondly, subjected to different successive organic solvents from the eight tested medicinal plants used to select the most potent plants and extracts. The obtained results could be summarised in the following:
