Abstract

Summary and Conclusions
This study was conducted to evaluate changes in facial soft tissues as a result of chin augmentation using hyaluronic acid filler. A sample of 10 post pubertal females with mild chin deficiency remaining after orthodontic treatment. Each patient received 2ml of Restylane Defyne hyaluronic acid filler for chin augmentation. Standardized lateral cephalometric radiographs and three dimensional laser face scans were taken before treatment (T0), two weeks (T1) and six months post-injection (T2). Lateral cephalometric analysis was done to identify soft tissue facial changes induced by the augmentation procedure. Superimposition of facial scans was done to evaluate the magnitude and direction of movement of different facial landmarks
It was concluded that
• The use of hyaluronic acid filler can be used to effectively augment soft tissues of the chin with resulting changes stable at six months period.
• Resulting changes were both statistically and clinically significant.
• Soft tissues of the chin at Pogonion can be moved forward up to 5.2mm immediately after augmentation and showing stability at 72.6% after six months.
• Effects of the augmentation procedure extended inferiorly to the submental tissues with improvement in throat contour and reduction of double chin appearance.
