COMPARATIVE STUDY OF WEBER'S GLANDS IN HUMAN BEINGS AND OTHER ANIMALS

Brigitte George Fouad;

Abstract

Summary and Conclusion
This study was carried out to investigate the morphological, histological and histochemical difference in the Weber's glands among the three species Human, Rabbit and Rat.
I. Human being:
Ten tongue specimens were dissected from fresh autopsies of middle aged males.
II. Animals : A.Rabbit. B.Rat.
Ten rabbit tongue specimens of adult male rabbits, weighing 2-2.5 kg and other ten tongue specimens of adult male albino rats, weighing
150-200 gms. Animals were killed and the tongues were excised from their most posterior part.
Tongue specimens were cut longitudinally into slices, fixed in 10% Ca-formal, processed, cut into serial sections of 6 microns thickness and subjected to the following stains:
A. Haematoxylin and Eosin staining for :
-For routine histological studies.
B. Histochemical studies :
I. Periodic acid schiff (PAS) to demonstrate glycogen and neutral mucopolysaccharides.
2. Alcian blue (Ph 2.5) - PAS for differentiation of acidic and neutral mucopoJysaccharides.
3. Alkaline fast green for demonstration of histones.
