EVALUATION OF PRODUCING SOME MEDICINAL AND AROMATIC HERBS UNDER AQUAPONIC CONDITION

Abstract

According to the results of this experiment, nutrient solution of hydroponics was superior the aquaponic water. Both aquaponic and hydroponic systems can produce basil and mint herbs (which consider main herbs of greenhouse production) with limited water and without soil, hence overcome the obstacle of land and water scarcity. Hydroponic basil and mint produced more height, fresh and dry weights compared to the aquaponic basil and mint. We conclude that this additional growth and yield in hydroponic because the nutrient solution contains all the nutrients required by the plant in adequate amount .The values of nitrate, nitrite and pH were analyzed in repeatedly measured samples. The values stabilized quickly and stayed stable during the duration of the experiment .according
