DNA Image.Analysis and Morpnometry In Soft Tissue Sarcomas
Rehab Monir Samaka;
Abstract
Soft tissue sarcomas (STS) are rare tumors representing 1 % of adult and 7 % of pediatric malignancies. The patient prognosis and biologic behavior of STS are determined by complex interactions between clinical,
. pathologic and biologic factors. Research on prognostic factors is hampered by the enormous heterogeneity of these tumors, their relative low incidence and their unique and unpredictive behavior.
The aim of this study was to investigate the value of image cytometry (ICM)-DNA ploidy and nuclear morphometric parameters in an attempt to predict the tumor biological behavior; local recurrence, distant metastasis and overall survival in a cohort study of patients with STS.
The material of this study consisted of archival paraffin blocks of 154 specimens from soft tissue neoplasm. They composed of 122 STS and 32 intermediate, rarely metastasizing soft tissue tumors. Histopathologic examination of STS cases studied revealed 30 (24.6 %) liposarcomas, 19
 (15.6 %) malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH), 17 (13.9 %) malignant
peripheral nerve sheath tumor (MPNST), 15 (12.3 %) rhabdomyosarcoma (RM), 10 (8.2 %) leiomyosarcoma, 10 (8.2 %) fibrosarcoma and 21 (17.2 %) uncertain differentiation group. Where, the intermediate, rarely metastasizing soft tissue tumors composed. of 10 (31.3 %) solitary fibrous tumor (SFT), 9
. (28.1 %) dermatofibrosarcorna protuberans (DFSP), 5 (15.6 %) Kaposi sarcoma (KS), 5 (15.6 %) hemangioendothelioma (HE) d 3 (9.4 %)
