Study of Muscle Cramps in Patients with Liver Cirrhosis

Abstract

This study was carried out to evaluate muscle cramps in I patients with cirrhotic liver disease in an attempt to establish the nature of the causal relationship between liver cirrhosis and I muscle cramps. TI1e study aimed to investigate the effect of I diuretic use, electrolytes disturbance and the severity of liver disease on the increase prevalence of muscle cramps in cirrhotic

patients. I Particular attention was g1ven to semm electrolytes I through determination of the following electrolytes level in I serum : Na +, K'" , Ca++ , cr , Po4 , and Mg++ in our subjects of study. I All subjects included in the study Ultderwellt the followillg: I - Full histmy taking by one physician interviewer to avoid I detection bias using a standardized questionnaire.
