Diagnostic role of PET CT in hepatocellular carcinoma compaired with triphasic CT imaging

Abstract

HCC is one of the most common malignant tumors worldwide. Imaging plays an important role in early detection, accurate staging, and treatment of patients. Many international society guidelines allow the noninvasive imaging diagnosis of HCC in at risk patients without the requirement of histologic confirmation. US, Triphasic CT, MRI as well as Molecular imaging techniques can be applied in diagnosis of HCC 18 F-FDG PET emerged as a highly effective nuclear imaging tool for diagnostic setup, treatment allocation, and assessment of post-interventional tumor response in medical and surgical oncology. The aim of this work was to assess the added value of PET/CT compaired with triphasic CT for improving tumor detection, staging and modifying treatment strategies in HCC patients. This study was carried on 40 patients 26 males (65%) and 14 females (35%) and their ages ranged between 54 and 75 years. All patients were subjected to full history taking, clinical examination,lab assessment, Obtaining informed consent, triphasic CT scan and PET/CT scan.
