Study of some lipoproteins in patients with lschaemit heart disease receiving Nigella sativa seeds
Hadeel Ahmed Saad Wanas;
Abstract
Atherosclerosis is the major cause of cardiovascular disease and
death. It is now recognized that atherosclerosis is a multifactorial process characterized by inflammatory and fibroproJiferative changes leading to
I macro and micro vascular complications with different clinical
I manifestations as angina and myocardial infarction.
Initial clinical and epidemiological studies established a relation between different risk factors as (hyperlipidemia, smoking, hypertension, diabetes, aging and family history) and ischemic heart disease. Later studies have focused on the atherogenesity of the total cholesterol and its concentration in different lipoproteins classes.
Elevated levels of total serum cholesterol, LDL-C, LDL-C/HDL-C
ratio, Lp(a) and decrease in serum HDL-C and HDL-C/Total cholesterol ratio, are risk factors for promoting atherogenesis. t.
Lp(a) is an independent risk factor for ischemic heart disease,it has an atherothrombotic role , as it consists of an LDL particle with its apo B• l 00 component linked by a disulfide bridge to apo (a), a variable length protein that has sequence homology to plasminogen. Family studies indicated that plasma level of Lp(a) are under strong genetic control .
