Microbiological Studies on Nosocomial Infections and its Control

Abstract


Nosocomial infections are considered one of the infections which can spread through environment of hospitals such as: surfaces surrounded the patients, objects, materials and medical equipments. The results of this study can be summarized in the following points:
1. Gram-positive bacterial isolates were more than Gram- negative bacterial isolates that cause the infection especially Staphylococcus aureus.
2. Hand washing sink, Computer keyboards and telephones are considered the most colonized sites with Gram-positive bacteria and Gram-negative bacteria.
3. Bacterial isolates were identified morphologically through culture characteristics and Gram staining method.
4. According to Vitek 2 compact system bacterial isolates were identified into different species as: Acnietobacter baumanii, Bacillus cereus, Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumonia, Pseudomonas auerignosa, Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus saprophyticus.
5. Staphylococcus aureus is considered the most significant bacterial species isolated from all the sites in the seclected hospitals with percentage 44.2% in comparing with other Gram-positive bacterial species, followed by Klebsiella
