GENETIC POLYMORPHISM IN SOME CUCURBITS

Walid Wafic Mohamed Badawy;

Abstract

Oix Cucumis melo L. and seven Citrullus sp. genotypes were
used in this study. The six C. melo included two plant introductions of the North Central Regional Plant Introductions Station, Iowa State University, two commercial American varieties and two Egyptian local varieties. The seven Citrullus sp. genotypes included one plant introductions of the North Central Regional Plant Introduction Station, Iowa State University, four commercial American varieties and two Egyptian local varieties.

This study was carried out in both the Experimental Fann and the Biotechnology Lab., at El-Kassasein Horticulture Research Station A.R.C during the seasons of 2000 and 2001.The eight characters studied in both parental and F, genotypes of both Cucumis melo and Cirullus sp. were plant height (cm), plant growth rate (cm/day). number of internodes on the main stem per plant, leaf area (em), average fruit weight (gm), fruit length (em), fruit width (em) and total sduble solids (Brix %). This work amid to:
(I) Study the genetic variability and genetic behavior of quantitative, yield and fruit characters and for obtain information about the gene effects
involved in the inheritance of these characters .
