Abstract

Forty-four dogs suffering from otitis belonged to 8 breeds (Golden Retriever, German shepherd, Cocker spaniel, Siberian husky, Labrador retriever, Rottweiler and Pekinese and Griffon). These dogs of different age groups less than 1year, 1-5 years and more than 5 years and of both sexes. The dogs suffering from otitis had symptoms of shaking of the head, and foul-smelling discharge from the affected ear. The collected swabs were subjected for bacteriological and mycological examination. Using standard microbiological methods, the collected ear swabs were cultured onto different bacteriological and SDA with chloramphenicol media. The bacterial isolates were identified using culture characters, Gram’s staining, and presence of hemolysis as well as biochemical tests. Each swab was simultaneously cultured onto SDA with sterile olive oil supplemented with chloramphenicol followed by aerobic incubation at 37°C for 5-7 days to recover M. pachydermatis which confirmed by PCR. C. albicans was confirmed by the germ tube test as well as chlamydospore and pseudohyphae formation on rice agar, also CHROMagar and PCR were used for conformation.
