Abstract

Nowadays, the focus revolves around harnessing renewable energy sources to fulfill power requirements. Numerous factors support adopting renewable energy, including the exhaustion of finite fuel reserves and the imperative to embrace cleaner energy sources. The wind energy conversion system (WECS) is considered the most advantageous form of renewable energy. WECS offers benefits such as affordability, eco-friendliness, and sustainability. Consequently, there is an effort to better the functioning of WECS. A review is conducted, in this paper, on various approaches aimed at enhancing the efficiency of WECS based on permanent magnet synchronous generators (PMSGs). The primary focus is on techniques that aim to achieve smoother and more efficient power generation and control of the output voltage. The study investigates different control schemes and optimization methods employed in this field to control the Voltage Source Converters in the WECS. Furthermore, the advantages and limitations are discussed.
