Biography
Prof. Dr. Jacinthe Rihan is a Professor of Sociology and Sustainable Development at Ain Shams University in Egypt. She is a distinguished academic and researcher whose work bridges sociology, women's studies, and the Sustainable Development Goals. With more than 20 years of experience, she has mentored many Master’s and Ph.D. students in topics ranging from rural livelihoods to violence against women and community development at institutions such as Ain Shams University and Texila American University. Dr. Rihan received her Ph.D. in Rural Sociology from Ain Shams University, focusing her thesis on the gender gap in rural Egyptian subcultures. Her educational background includes a Master of Science (MSc) in rural sociology, with a focus on harmful practices against women, and a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in rural planning and development. Throughout her career, she has held various leadership positions, including Head of Program Implementation and Program Area Manager for Plan International Egypt, as well as a member of the Judges Committee at The Scientific Committee for Economic and Social Sciences, and currently, Member of The Egyptian Universities Scientific Promotion Committee at the Supreme Council of Universities.
Her research has attracted national and international recognition. She is a frequent conference speaker on topics like women’s rights, rural development, and child protection. She has served as an editorial board member and reviewer for almost 10 esteemed journals and is actively involved in academic and professional networks, such as the International Advisory Council of the Institute of One World Leadership and the Egyptian Association of Sociology. Dr. Rihan’s scholarly output includes numerous thesis supervisions and publications in leading journals, with contributions addressing gender issues, agricultural development, and rural quality of life.
