Biography
Received his B.Sc. (Magna Cum Laude) in 1995 and his M.Sc. in 1998 both from Electronics and Communication Engineering at Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt. Received his PhD from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2002. He worked as a Lecturer at the EE Department, UCLA. He is currently a Professor of Microelectronics at the ECE Department, Ain Shams University. He served as the Vice Dean for Graduate Studies and Research frpm 2-15 till 2017. Between 2004 and 2011 he was the General Manager and Technical Director of the Radio Frequency Circuits Business Unit at SySDSoft Inc, a design service start-up company in Cairo, Egypt later acquired by Intel Corporation in 2011. At Intel, he served as the director of radio frequency circuit design. He was a system architect for mobile platforms before moving to Intel Laboratories which he left in 2013. He served as the Executive Director of the Science and Technology Development Fund, STDF and led its organizational transformation to the Science, Technology, and Innovation Funding Authority, STIFA which is the largest research funding body in Egy[t. He is the author of the two books, and more than 50 technical papers. He is currently as senior executive advisor at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology. Dr. Hegazi received the UCLA graduate division fellowship in 1999 and 2000. In 2001, he received the Analog Devices Inc. outstanding Student Designer Award. He was the 2001-2002 recipient of the IEEE Solid-State Circuits Society pre-doctoral fellowship. His work at UCLA awarded him the outstanding Ph.D. award from the EE department in 2002. He served as the technical program co-chair for the International Conference on Microelectronics, ICM in 2007. He served as an associate editor of the JCSC as well as the IEICE Transactions on Fundamentals of Electronics, Communications and Computer Sciences, Japan. He also served as the Secretary of the "Hardware and Components" Society at the National Academy of Scientific Research, Cairo, Egypt. In 2013, he received the best researcher award from the faculty on Engineering, Ain Shams University. In 2015 he founded the IEEE SSCS/CAS Egypt Joint Chapter. Dr. Hegazi is a senior member of the IEEE since 2009.
